A panoramic lunch terrace in the Alps

The project

A mountain hotel above Merano wanted to extend its restaurant onto a terrace with a full view of the Dolomites — and keep it open from the first weeks of spring to the advent season. The cold-resistant AP-350 pergola made a terrace at altitude a four-season proposition.

Engineered for altitude

Snow load, frost and the dry alpine wind were the real clients of this project. A reinforced frame, insulated louvers and wind sensors that lock the roof before a gust arrives let the hotel promise an outdoor table even when the peaks above are already white.

Engineered for altitude

The terrace as a destination

Lunch on the terrace has become the hotel's signature: local dishes, mountain air, and a horizon of peaks under a roof you can open when the foehn wind brings a warm February day.
