The project
An eco-resort carved out of a historic masseria needed shade for its new wellness courtyard — white stone, citrus trees, and a spa pool open to the sky. The AP-230 pavilion pergola was chosen for its quiet lines, which sit naturally among the old walls.
Cool by design
In the Sicilian summer the courtyard would have been unusable by eleven in the morning. With the louvers angled against the high sun and the stone floor breathing underneath, guests now move from massage suite to pool in continuous shade, and the courtyard stays part of the resort all day long.

Respect for the past
Nothing was drilled into the historic masonry: the pergola stands on its own foundation a hand's width from the old walls, in a warm white that matches the lime plaster. From the pool, the new structure is simply another layer of the masseria's long history.
